The amazing Amazon mesmerizes students
A dozen young people traveled to the Amazon with Danvers High School biology teacher Jeff Gallo, expecting to come home with stories of the eco-system and protecting the Tropical Rain Forest. But, they came home with much more.

No defense for power surge: Danvers Gallant all-stars shines on offense with little left in the field
Danvers -It all started out quite well for the Danvers entry in the 25th annual Gallant Tournament at Salem’s Forest River Park with a win over Lynn, 12-8 Aug. 14. But then, the locals let their guard down, dropping an 11-7 decision to Swampscott Aug. 16; before bowing out of this double elimination tournament against Marblehead, 10-4 Aug. 17.

Fun club for after school
Danvers -Parents and elementary school children are invited to check out the after school Fun Club, run by the town’s Recreation Division and certified by the state Department of Early Education and Care.

Sparring for some teddy bears
Danvers -He uses odd words, like “Kata” or “Sensei,” but young Robert Amerault does things that everyone understands — he helps the vulnerable.

New lieutenants named in fire department
Danvers -Three firefighters — Robert Amerault, Ken Reardon, and Jeff Cooney — recently won promotion to lieutenant, filling vacancies in the department that resulted from retirements earlier this year.
